The effect of empathy-based cognitive behavior play therapy on changes in prosocial behaviors of children at risk of emotional and behavioral disorders

Abstract
This study was conducted to examine the effect of empathy-based cognitive behavior play therapy for improving prosociality of children at risk of emotional and behavioral disorders. This study targeted 8 children, who were commissioned to examine their emotional behavior problems at welfare centers and psychological support centers in Daegu and Gyeongbuk area and obtained a T-score of over 60(84% tile) in the internalizing and externalizing behavioral problem domain of the K-CBCL pre-evaluation. After dividing them into a research group and an experimental group, total 12 sessions of program were applied. The program was combined with Adler¡¯s Children Training and Cognitive Behavior Play Therapy(CBPT) and reorganized to suit the age and the level of children. The study finding showed that significant differences in the pre- and post-test scores of prosocial behaviors were found between the research group and the control group and with the progress of the sessions, the research group had a constant increase in changes of the sub-domain.
